Redknapp Makes Shocking Court Revelation

by Philip Mboya on January 27, 2012

As you probably know, Tottenham coach Harry Redknapp is currently been investigated for tax evasion offenses committed over 3 years ago and things got interesting yesterday when in tape recordings presented to the court, Redknapp said that he could not have fiddled his tax returns because he is illetrate.

Now, this might come off as unbelievable, but according to an embarrassed Redknapp, it is true. An excerpt from the recording below was played at the Southwark Crown Court yesterday.

”I can’t work a computer, I don’t know what an email is, I can’t, I have never sent a fax and I’ve never even sent a text message. I have a big problem, I can’t write so I don’t keep anything. I am the most disorganised person, I am ashamed to say, in the world.”

Whether this is true or not will be hard to prove, however if Redknapp’s revelations are true, it would be one of the most shocking in recent football history.

Prior to this, Redknapp made other startling remarks when interviewed by police as he claimed that all his financial matters were handled by by his accountant and that he had never written a letter in his life.

”I pay a fortune to my accountant to look after me you know. He writes all the cheques for me and my wife. He pays my bills. He runs my life basically.”

This is understandable, though many might have the knowledge on filing their tax returns, not many have the patience or time to undertake the duty. However, the statement below is hard to believe when you consider how eloquently Redknapp expresses his ideas and opinions during press conferences.

“I’ve never wrote a letter in my life. I couldn’t write a letter. I write like a two-year-old and I can’t spell. You talk to anybody at the football club. I don’t write. I couldn’t even fill a team sheet in.”

So the big question is will Redknapp resign now that it is looking more likely that he will charged for taking Bungs? (a bung is a secret financial incentive to make a transfer happen). That is the ethical thing to do, however, one that is unlikely to happen for obvious reasons.

My guess is that Redknapp will be penalised for his actions by the government and probably fined by the club and the matter swept under the carpet, however the damage to the club and his public image has already been done.

What do you think, Should Redknapp Resign?
