Mancini Blame Refereeing Errors for Man City’s Failure in Carling Cup

by Dewa Nugraha on January 26, 2012

Roberto ManciniManchester City have officially went out from another competition, this time it’s the Carling Cup after Roberto Mancini’s side only managed to get a 2-2 draw against Liverpool in the competition’s second leg, while getting beaten 1-0 in the first meeting.

Mancini himself was very disappointed at that failure but once again he put the blame on refereeing decision instead of his team’s own performance, which the manager though already pleasing enough.

Mancini took the spite on a penalty decision being given to the Reds adding that there was one that should have gone their way involving Edin Dzeko. The manager believes that those two errors pretty much affected the course of the game considering they would have gone through to the final should things goes according to the Italian manager’s scenario.

“Without the mistake on the penalty we would probably have won. It was no penalty. It should have been a penalty for us on Dzeko. The penalty for Dzeko was 100 per cent. For Micah, the ball hit his leg before it hit his arm,” Mancini spoke on Man City’s official site. “I’m not being critical of the referee, I’m just giving my opinion. I’m happy with the performance. We’re disappointed with the result but we can do nothing now.”

The manager also confirmed that his team wasn’t backing down from the Carling Cup as Mancini believes that every competition is important and they have already did everything they could to beat Liverpool. This defeat gives another bitter taste for the ex-Inter Milan coach, as his team have already failed in the Champions League and also FA Cup, making their title chances this season reduced to only two, in the premier league and also Europa League.

All competitions are important and we did everything we could to reach the final – now it’s finished and we have to think about the Barclays Premier League and the Europa League,” Mancini said.
