Jack Wilshere Breaks Down In Training

by David on January 27, 2012

Stop me if you have had heard this story before.  An Arsenal players original injury is misdiagnosed and during his rehab, he gets injured again. This scenario almost cost Thomas Vermaelen all of last season, and now it is happening to Jack Wilshere. Its like Groundhog Day all over again.

Wilshere, whose original stress fracture injury was misdiagnosed, underwent surgery in the fall and was expected to make his first appearance in an Arsenal shirt this season in the next few weeks.

But Arsene Wenger told the media today that:

“Jack’s had a little set-back which is under investigation at the moment. As soon as we know more we will sit down with Jack and we will inform you. He’s had a pain in his ankle. He’s done nothing special but he felt pain so we stopped him straight away. He has started running and that’s how he did it. My gut feeling is I don’t want to come out with gut feelings. He is seeing the specialist today but I don’t want to give any wrong information. As soon as I know more I will let you know.”

Why does this keep happening to Arsenal players? I cannot think of another top club in England or Europe, whose players repeatedly break down in training as much as Arsenal players do.

Reports suggest that Wilshere could be out for another six weeks which is a huge blow to manager Arsene Wenger as he battles a lengthening injury list. Wilshere’s injury has to be also causing a lot of concern in the England camp as Wilshere will now be in danger of missing Euro 2012 this summer, which would be a massive blow for England.
