Defoe Believes in Spurs’ Strenght

by Dewa Nugraha on November 29, 2011

Jermain DefoeTottenham Hotspurs fine run brought their position high up in the league table as Harry Redknapp’s squad are not hanging at third behind the Manchester duo and with a game in hand as well.

This situation pretty brought the optimism board around their players, such as Jermaine Defoe, who believes that his team are on a verge to achieve something great by the end of season.

Defoe also claimed that Spurs‘ squad are really strong this season, with quality depth which even allowed them to field two quality teams from the current roosters. The arrival of some important players such as Scott Parker along with Emmanuel Adebayor this summer, has really been improving the squad especially since important actors such as Luca Modric and Gareth Bale decided to stick around this season.

“I think this is the best group of players I’ve been involved with. The squad is unbelievable. We’ve got two great teams in effect we can put out to be honest and it is a great time to be at the club. I just think the sky’s the limit for Tottenham really,” Defoe stated.

Looking at their excellent position in the table, just like Defoe stated, Spurs can really be a serious candidates for at least competing for the Champions League zone, although the Lilywhites might even consider themselves as title contender at the moment. In truth, should they managed to win their game in hand, Spirs would be leapfrogging Man United at second place and that would obviously gives them a stronger confidence boost.

However, they should also be careful in this upcoming winter transfer window as there might still be some strong attempt from several top clubs in prizing up one of Spurs’ influential players such as Modric, Bale or maybe Van Der Vaart. Among those three names, Modric might be the one that Redknapp must really set their concern as the player was very determined in leaving for Chelsea in the summer but failed to materialize. Looking at how the Blues are still a bit inconsistent in their form, there’s a big chance that Villas-Boas’ team will once again try to purchase the Croatian international this January.
