Having successfully acquiring a consistent place at Chelsea‘s first team squad, Daniel Sturridge, now eying for the next step on his footballing career, which is getting a call for the England national team and fly to the upcoming Euro 2012 if possible.
Sturridge, who was loaned out to Bolton last season, has so far scored four goals in the league for the Blues and undoubtedly became one of the most important players at Stamford Bridge under Andre Villas-Boas reign.
With the current important status and fine performances that he provide for his club, Sturridge is currently hoping that it would be enough to earn him a call up by Fabio Capello. The 22-years-old striker is dreaming of getting one spot in the national team at the upcoming Euro 2012, despite haven’t really feature yet in the senior team so far.
“I’ve not been selected for England yet, so I don’t think there’s any pressure on myself to do anything. Hopefully, in the future, it does happen because it would be great for me – it would be a dream come true,” Sturridge stated. “I want to go to the Euros and it would be great for me to get selected, but I’m not worried about the pressure being put on me because I’ve been working hard doing my thing.”
Despite really hoping to get a call up for the upcoming Euro 2012, Sturridge reveals that he won’t be doing anything extraordinary as the 22-years-old will only try to give everything for Chelsea this season. Should everything his doing is good, the striker believes that eventually Capello will eventually call hip up, especially because the Italian tactician never have a problem in bringing talented youngsters into the national team.
“Everyone would love to get on the plane, I’m no different. I just want to focus on working hard for Chelsea and playing every game and hope that the England manager chooses me to go,” the young forward added.
Reports from media suggested that Sturridge is indeed going to get his dream soon, as Capello might test the young striker during England’s upcoming two friendly matches in November, where the Queen Elizabeth squad challenges Spain and Sweden. Having already trying up some young talents such as Tom Cleverly, Jack Wilshere and also Danny Welbeck, the stage might eventually set for Sturridge this time.
Should the 22-years-old striker managed to impress during his ‘test’ time, his change to get a place in Euro is definitely big especially with the potential absence of Wayne Rooney in some games in the group stage. Without Rooney, obviously Capello would be needing as many quality attackers he can get to help England’s national team chances in doing well at the competition.
