Liverpool manager, Kenny Dalglish playing down the weekend big match between his team against Manchester United as just like any other matches despite the fact that Sir Alex Ferguson thinking the opposite.
Dalglish, who since managing the Reds have been building a significantly improved squad, revealed that what made the game against Man United a bit different is only because winning would get the Anfield boys closer to the league leader.
“People say this is the biggest game of the season but I don’t look at any game as being big or small. It’s another game, another three points for a win. The only difference this time is the fact that, if we win, we will move a bit closer to them. It’s an opportunity to help yourself and dent their chances at the same time,” Dalglish stated.
Furthermore, Dalglish also acknowledged that the Sunday game will definitely be a tough contest although Liverpool under the legend’s management did beaten Man United 3-1 at Anfield last season. The former Reds legend warns his players that just remembering last season’s glory won’t be much helpful for Liverpool’s chance in getting the three point on Saturday, especially since United are a quality team in a pretty good form.
“In this fixture last season, we got our reward for playing very well and won 3-1. But we won’t get anything on Saturday because of what we did the last time we faced off against them. We know what we’re up against and so do they. Nobody will have an easy 90 minutes. That’s what the Premier League is all about,” Dalglish added.
Obviously Dalglish acknowledged the importance of the tie against Man United, as Ferguson’s team have become the side that took away Liverpool’s proud record as the most successful team in the league after the Red Devils won their 19th premiership title last season. The contest between the two giants now becomes a much more emotional encounter especially for the die hard fans, who are hoping that the Reds can immediately regain their status which has been stolen by United.
Despite knowing that it’s an hugely important match, Dalglish seems trying to take away the pressure out of his players so they can perform without much tension on Saturday. Playing in a lesser pressure would definitely gives an edge for Liverpool as they might be able repeat last season success since Liverpool does have the quality in beating the Red Devils.
