Corinthians Re-ignites Interest InTevez

by Philip Mboya on October 10, 2011

Brazilian club Corinthians has once again expressed interest in signing Argentine striker Carlos Tevez. Tevez is currently facing a 2 week ban imposed on him by his club Manchester City after he refused to join his team mates when called upon as a substitute in their 2-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League.

Speaking to Sky Sports, former Arsenal midfielder Edu who is now the club’s football director said that the club is keen on bringing the striker back to Brazil. Of course it is remains to be seen what further action the club will take against Tevez, but it is safe to say that he is not  part of Mancini’s immediate plans.

“We want to see how Tevez is and what his situation is, we will see if we can do a deal,”  Edu said.

“He is very famous in Brazil and everyone loves him, and the fans want him.

The above statements may be true, however, would a move back to Corinthians help his faltering career? I do not think so. The way things stand at the moment, Tevez has also fallen down the national teams pecking order.

With in form players like Higuain, Di Maria, Messi and even Pastore all fighting for a starting position, Tevez will have to do more than just scoring goals to rebuild his reputation.

That said, a move away from England does look eminent as Edu is in the country to try and work out a possible deal.

“Now we are here [in England] and we will talk and see what the situation is and we will look to sign him in the summer.

There is no doubting the talent Tevez’s possess, however, it does raise a lot of questions as to the reasons why he has never truly settled in the EPL. That however will remain a mystery but one thing that is very clear, is that his future with City is not certain.
