Confident Vidic Expect More Respect For United

by Dewa Nugraha on May 25, 2011

Laurent KoscielnyIn the build up for the upcoming Champions League final between Barcelona against Manchester United, next Saturday, May 29, the Spanish side seems to get plenty of favor from many neutrals due to the quality of their players and style of football, this kind of condition doesn’t worry United’s Nemanja Vidic.

Speaking to the press, Vidic stated that he and his teammates have no problem with the huge supports towards Barca, as he believes the Red Devils are more than capable of causing an upset in the final. Still, the Serbian international hopes that people would give more respect and credit towards his team beside praising the Catalan side.

Barcelona are favourites for this game. We are fine with that – they are a good team and they play some good football. But we are not a club that has won nothing over the years. There should be some respect for us,” Vidic said. “We are Manchester United. In the last five years we have won four titles and this will be our third Champions League final. I believe we can win. “

Vidic strong statement is mostly being stated due to the odds that have been highly favoring the Barcelona side instead of the current premier league champions, it seems that the defender expecting a much more balance support considering the credibility of United. Although it actually isn’t a big issue, still with many neutrals are also much more convinced with the Spanish’ team’s quality over the Red Devils, the center back might be feeling that the English champion are being underrated a bit.

This condition could actually give an advantage for United as being the underdog means that the Red Devils can play without lots of pressure as they are not actually being expected that much to overcome the Spanish champion. Considering that Man United already have a little bit mental pressure because they will be playing in their own country, where the local expectation are also huge, not becoming the overall favorite in the contest might just what they need to beat the Catalan team.
