Having all sort of problems last season, Newcastle United managed to reach their target of surviving in the premier league, this success brings a little bit confidence on one of their star performers, Fabricio Coloccini, who believes that his team can improve next season.
Coloccini however, doesn’t expect the team to challenge for higher objectives such as getting into European football as just yet but simply finishing higher than 12th position would already be a positive thing for Newcastle.
Moreover, Coloccini also stated in order to improve their position they must win more games in the new season especially getting much better results when playing their home game at St. James Park. The Magpies themselves only picked up six victories on their home game, one better compared to their away result, but still not really enough to warrant them a top ten finish in the Premier League, which could very be the target that Coloccini had on his mind.
“Our first aim was to be safe last season and we achieved it. Next season we will look to move up the table again.” We work well together as a team and I think that showed when it mattered last season,” Coloccini said. “Hopefully we can get better results at home, win more matches than last year and climb up the table.
Although there has been rumors linking him with a move to Sevilla in Spain, Coloccini stated that he has no intention to leave Newcastle in search of bigger club as the Argentinian defender already felt comfortable at St. James Park. The former Deportivo La Coruna player added that the appreciation he receives from the Toon Army’s fans is the main reason he isn’t thinking about another club as the supporters make him felt like a special player.
I am happy at Newcastle and when I hear the fans singing my name it gives me a special feeling,” Colocinni added.
With potentially several changes made by Alan Pardew in the new season, Coloccini surely hopes that it will give more positive impact rather than negative one as each season competing in the premier league gets tougher. The 29-years-old center back also expect to keep his first team position in the squad especially since he has pretty much been an important part of Newcastle for quite a while, not to mention being one of the fans favorite at St. James Park.
