Having an unconvincing short debut in the premiership with Liverpool didn’t discourage new signing, Sebastian Coates, regarding his future career at Anfield as the Uruguayan is convinced that he can have a great career at the club.
Despite of his confidence, Coates does acknowledged that getting success with the Reds won’t be an easy task considering he is now being faced to perform in an environment so much different from his previous.
The defender does admit though that playing abroad is indeed what simply fueled his current motivation in playing with the Reds as the player pretty much achieved such a quick success locally and also for the national team. However, just like many South American talents, Coates possessed such a high ambition in being successful in everywhere he stepped into especially getting recognition in competitive European league, which always is the stepping stone for ones career.
“The best players are successful wherever they go. I am determined to become an important player here at a historical stage of the club’s future. The biggest attraction was the challenge: to come to an unfamiliar place – a huge club – and make a name for myself. So far in my career, I have been very lucky; to play for Nacional, to play in the Copa Libertadores, to win the Copa America. There has been a lot of success in a short period of time but I have achieved that in a place where I am most comfortable,” Coated stated.
The young defender’s arrival at the Reds was pretty much a surprise since Liverpool’s interest wasn’t actually known until the later part of the summer transfer window, when things suddenly moving rapidly for the club. Coates attracted the big clubs’ eyes mostly after his fine performance for Uruguay in the Copa America, where the youngster successfully build a solid defensive partnership with Diego Lugano, helping his country grabbing the trophy this year.
Coates begun his adventure for Liverpool last weekend on the club’s disappointing 4-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspurs in which the young defender entered the pitch as a substitute for the injured Danniel Agger. The 20-years-old obviously is looking at becoming potential starters in the next few matches especially with the problem that Agger’s having, the Uruguayan international is already lined up to play in the upcoming Carling Cup tie against Brighton & Hove Albion.
