Manchester City set their foot in the top of the premier league for at least one day after the Eastlands side escaped a thrilling match at home against Wolves in a game that marked the debut of City’s new striker, Edin Dzeko.
Although the night was set to see Dzeko’s first impression, it was Carlos Tevez that once again become the star for the Citizen after the Argentinian striker strike two goals on the night that helped the team took a 4-1 lead midway in the second half before the away team put up a fight by adding two goals in the last ten minutes.
Aiming to take the top spot for at least a day before Manchester United plays their game on Sunday, Manchester City looked a bit nervous early on as the away team managed to make much more dangerous goal scoring chances while the home team can’t seem to break Wolves’ tight defense. After several dangerous opportunities, the visitor finally took the lead through Nenad Milijas who capitalized on the mistake made by Kolo Toure’s, who failed to clear a cross from the right side.
The goal from the away team stunned City as they start to come alive in search of the equalizer, however Wolves are keeping things really tight at the back and doesn’t really let many chances for the home side. Just as things seems to look hard for the multimillionaire team, Kolo Toure, made up for his error by scoring the equalizing goal five minutes before the first half ended after his shot that runs through few bodies ended up in the back of the net.
With a 1-1 scoreline, the second half started in a positive fashion as both team looked confident in bagging the victory, however it was the home team that successfully took the lead this time as their troubling talisman, Tevez, put out a lovely individual effort before beating Hennesy at Wolves’ goal. That second goal motivates City players to get more goals and it doesn’t take them a long time getting it as five minutes after the second goal, Yaya Toure latched on into Dzeko’s pass and rolled the ball into the away side’s net with an ease.
Midway into the second half the match looked pretty much done and dusted as Tevez bagged his second goal of the game after heading into Pablo Zabaleta’s cross from the right side of the field. Just when the City fans thought that their team were already home and dry, things gets interesting after Kevin Doyle pulled a goal back from the penalty spot after he was fouled in the box by Joleon Lescott. With a 4-2 scoreline, the match gets more intense as the visitor keeps on pressing believing that they could still get something from the game and Zubar’s goal fine minutes before the final 90 really set up a tense atmosphere at the City of Manchester until the referee blows the final whistle that ends the home crowd’s nail bitting last moments.
