Chelsea To Announce New Manager At End Of Month

by David on June 15, 2011

Chelsea‘s chief executive, Ron Gourlay met with the press yesterday and had some interesting comments about Chelsea’s next manager and summer signings.

“As far as the manager is concerned, the process is going well but now is not the time for me to comment on who the next manager is going to be. We will announce things in the usual way but hopefully in the next week or two, we’ll be in a position to announce who our new coach will be.”

Now to play devil’s advocate, two weeks takes us up to the end of the month and close to the time that Mark Hughes is available to talk with clubs. Is the delay in announcing a new manager because Chelsea are waiting for Hughes? If they are, that would mean that Hiddink would then take over as Director of Football.

Gourlay also said that it was unlikely that Chelsea will have a big influx of new players this summer:

“As far as players are concerned, the basis of the team will be the same for next season,” he added. “There may be an introduction of two or three players. We’ve identified key players that we’d like to bring to the team, players who can strengthen the team but of course we’ll probably have to wait until the new coach is in place.”

My assumption is that Hiddink and who ever is coming in as the Chelsea manager has pre-approved these purchases.
