Chelsea Still Plan Summer Spending Spree For Neymar

by Dewa Nugraha on February 11, 2011

La scritta e il luogo fuori dallo stadioHaving already spent a fortune in the winter transfer window even with reports of financial loss issues, reports from England suggested that Chelsea‘s owner, Roman Abramovic, want to continue his big spending in the summer as the Blues are still keen on signing Brazilian young talent, Neymar.

Reports from Soccernet stated that despite already landing a superstar striker, Fernando Torres, Abramovic’s dream in getting more talented players into his club’s rosters will continue with the addition of the young Santos player next summer.

“Santos still don’t want to sell, but that could all change in the summer. Yes, Barcelona have shown interest, but so have all the top clubs across Europe. Certainly Roman Abramovich has changed his mind about spending big, and the indications are that Chelsea will return for Neymar,” an insider told Soccernet.

This plan surely gives the impression that previous news stating that Chelsea will make some serious changes in the summer might be true including the sales for some of their veteran stars including their current main striker, Didier Drogba. With Torres’ arrival, the space in the Blues’ attacking line up is surely fully booked at the moment, that’s why should the plan on getting Neymar turned out to be true, there have to be a space being left for the teenage sensation.

Surely getting the talented Brazilian will also be an interesting gamble for the Blues as being a very young talent, it would probably take a while for the player to adapt with a new and tougher league such as the Premier League. Not only that, the next issue would be the amount of cash required by Chelsea to get Neymar as latest reports suggested that Carlo Ancelotti’s squad are currently being watched by UEFA after spending lots of cash in the winter despite announcing their loss.

With the Financial Fair Play thing is ready to take off, Chelsea seemed eager to maximize every opportunity left in making high profile purchases especially considering the fact that they already have too many “old” players in the squad. Having many important players already reaching into their 30s, the Blues surely will have to move quick in looking for new quality replacements if they don’t want to lose ground in the competition with other clubs in England or Europe.
