Shortly after releasing himself from FC Porto, Andre Villas-Boas, has officially been confirmed as the new Chelsea manager in a pretty surprising week after the media were linking the Blues more with Guus Hiddink instead of the Portuguese young manager.
The London club’s moving in swiftly right after reports suggesting that Inter Milan were in talks with Villas-Boas few days ago, while the Italian giant failed to capture the former Jose Mourinho’s assistant, Roman Abramovic’s side made the breakthrough and have unveiled the new coach on their official website.
“Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce that Andre Villas-Boas will be the club’s new manager.
He has signed a three-year contract and will start work immediately,” the Chelsea official site wrote.
Villas-Boas’ name have actually been linked since quite a while but in the last few weeks it was Hiddink, who become the media favorites in sealing the job especially after the Dutchman stated his willingness in accepting the job. However, once the London team understand that the Portuguese manager could be made available should his 15 million Euro release clause being paid, Chelsea’s management didn’t waste much time as within days, the reached a deal with the 33-years-old tactician.
Moreover, Chelsea’s website also stated that Villas-Boas’ previous experience as Mourinho’s assistant few seasons ago also becomes a plus point for the club since many of the Blues players are being shaped under the current Real Madrid’s tactician’s hands. Andre Villas-Boas’ knowledge about the structure and most of the squad members at Stamford Bridge surely gives a little bit ease for the London club as there might not be much difficulties for the new manager to integrate himself.
“Andre will bring his coaching experience back to a club he is already very familiar with, having previously worked here for three years. He has always been highly regarded at Chelsea and everyone here looks forward to welcoming him back and working with him,” wrote a statement at Chelsea’s official site.
Villas-Boas has been catching the eyes of many football pundits and fans after having a successful year with FC Porto this season, as the Portuguese giant grabbed a treble by winning the league, cup and Europa League competition recently. However, the young tactician definitely have a lot to prove in his upcoming job as managing a big team like the Blues and also competing in a much more difficult competition won’t be an easy task for a new manager despite of all his talent. Moreover, his lack of experience in the Champions League will surely be something many would questioned as the trophy has been the long desire of the London club’s owner since taking over the club few years ago.
