Chelsea Offer Lampard New Contract

by Philip Mboya on October 23, 2011

Chelsea have offered Frank Lampard a new contract that will keep him with the Blues until 2015. Lampard has been with Chelsea since 2001 making  351 appearances for them and scoring 119 goals in the process.

It comes as no surprise that Chelsea has offered Lampard a new contract as he has established himself as a regular with all coaches and after a shaky start to the season, it appears that new coach Andre Villas-Boas is also warming up to the midfielder.

According to an insider at the club, Lampard’s work ethic is exemplary. The 33 year old always trains hard and is normally the last player to leave the field of play.

“[He is] always last off the training pitch,” said an insider at the club to The Mirror. “He is always looking to improve himself. And it is not for the benefit of Chelsea TV. He is just a great professional.”

It is not any wonder then that Lampard is the world player of the week according to football site Goal.com. Fans and players adore him and many  believe that he will play a crucial part in Chelsea’s title hopes this season.

The Blues prepare to take on newly promoted Queens Park Rangers. On paper, this should be an easy fixture for Chelsea, however, QPR have shown that they are not in the league to make the numbers.

Chelsea coach Villas-Boas is expected to play a 4-3-3 formation with Mata Drogba and Anelka leading the attack in the absence of 2 goal midweek hero Fernando Toress.

The midfield will comprise of Miereles, Lampard and Mikel while the defense will have Ivanovic, Bosingwa Terry and Cole. QPR on the other hand will counter this with a more defensive 4-2-3-1 formation with Helguson playing as the lone striker.

He will be assisted by former Chelsea player Shaun Wright Phillips, Barton and Taarabt. Both teams will be missing influential players with Chelsea missing the services of Toress who is suspended and Ramires and  Essien who are out with  knee injuries.

The Blues go into the match knowing that a win for them coupled with a negative result for either side in the Manchester derby will greatly play to their advantage.
