Trouble arrives for Chelsea ahead of their second league game this weekend against West Brom after reports from the Blues’ camp confirmed that goalkeeper, Peter Cech, picked up an injury during training and is likely to be absent for three-four weeks.
The bad news was revealed by the London club’s manager, Andre Villas-Boas to the press stating that the Czech international player suffered a ligament injury because he fell awkwardly in the end of Wednesday’s training.
“Petr Cech yesterday suffered a medial ligament injury and will be out for three to four weeks. It was the end of training, a normal training incident. He fell awkwardly with his weight on top of him. We expected much worse when we saw the incident.” said Villas Boas.
Luckily for Chelsea, although Cech is confirmed to miss out on the next two league games, the keeper might make it back on time for the Blues’ play their first big match this season against Manchester United, because the help of international break. However, temporary, the Blues will have to rely on either Hilario or Ross Turnball in guarding Villas-Boas’ team’s goal for the next two league games, surely hoping that one of those two can provide confidence to Chelsea’s defense.
The goal keeping issue simply adds another homework for Villas-Boas as he is also trying to work out his attacking formula which didn’t worked out well in Chelsea’s first league match against Stoke City last weekend. Only managed to pick up a 0-0 draw in that opening match, the Portuguse coach surely is working hard to find the best combination up front for the upcoming games and making his choices more difficult, latest reports revealed that the Blues have already signed a new striker, Romeru Lukaku, which would be available for Villas-Boas’ disposal.
Meanwhile, aside from Lukaku’s addition, reports suggesting that the Blues are also very serious in trying to sign another attacking player, which is Juan Mata from Valencia. It seems that the poor display from Chelsea’s two wide attacking players in the first league game, affected Villas-Boas judgments and opted to search for another options on that position.
