Former Premier League champions Blackburn Rovers have been relegated after losing 1-0 at home to Wigan tonight. Antolin Alcaraz’s goal in the 87th minute was enough to keep Wigan in the Premier League for another season.

There were ugly scenes at the final whistle when some Blackburn fans ran onto the field at Ewood Park in further opposition to the club’s management and owners on a night of protest at Ewood Park.

Rovers went into the game knowing that anything less than a win would mean relegation, and yet they were dominated completely by Wigan.

Two second half goals from Yaya Touré kept Manchester City are on the verge of winning their first league title since 1968.

The title race will go down to the last game of the season after Manchester United beat Swansea City 2-0, but it would be a monumental collapse if City did not win the title now.

In a tense match at St. James Park, Newcastle frustrated and harried City for 70 minutes before Yaya Toure broke the deadlock with a superb shot from the edge of the box.

Arsenal failed again to grab the all important three points as their attempt in running away from their competitors for third place halted again, this time by Stoke City, who held Arsene Wenger’s side 1-1 at Brittania Stadium.

However, their current third place spot is still safe because their closest rival, Newcastle United were surprisingly trashed by relegation battler, Wigan Athletic, 4-0 at DW Stadium, a shocking result indeed for Alan Pardew’s boys.

Arsenal‘s 2-1 defeat against Wigan on Monday made things rather tricky for Arsene Wenger’s team as their third place spot are not mathematically secured as just yet considering the likes of Tottenham Hotspurs and Newcastle United are only five points behind.

Wenger himself believes that his players could be feeling really tired already as it was visible shown in their second half performance against Wigan, which was toothless.

Super Wigan Stun Arsenal

When did Wigan turn into Barcelona?

I was certain that today’s Arsenal v Wigan match was a home banker. How could it not be. Wigan had never won at the Emirates in the Premier League

But I was totally forgetting that Wigan had just beaten Man United and should have beaten Chelsea (robbed by the linesman). And tonight at the Emirates we saw how well they are playing as two quick goals stunned the Gunners (and the crowd) and then they hung on to win 2-1. A great win for their survival hopes, a big blow for Arsenal’s hopes of finishing third this season.

Huge upset in the Premier League title race tonight as Manchester United lost 1-0 to Wigan, and Manchester City took advantage of the slip by their quiet neighbors to beat West Brom and move within five points of the league leader.

Wigan started the day in the relegation zone and not many of their fans gave them much of a chance against United, especially since they had never taken as much as a point off United in the Premier League. However, Roberto Martínez’s side totally outplayed United on the right and got the result they deserved when men Shaun Maloney scored off a short corner in the 50th minute. The win moved Wigan two points clear of the bottom three.

Chelsea once again managed to carry their positive European form back into the league as they picked up an important victory against Wigan Athletic on Saturday with a late goal from Juan Mata.

The match were once again a very tight one for the Blues but Mata’s goal in the final minute simply brought an important step for their fourth place spot ambition as they’re keeping pace with the teams above them.

Manchester City FC’s perfect home Premier League record has ended as they needed two late goals to draw 3-3 with Sunderland while Wolves looked a certainty for the drop after losing at home to fellow strugglers Bolton.

City fell behind to a Sebastian Larsson strike on 31 minutes, but Mario Balotelli levelled from the spot but Nicklas Bentner headed Sunderland back in front before the break in a pulsating first-half in Manchester. Larsson then made it 3-1 on the counterattack early in the second half, and it looked like City’s title chances were going to take a serious hit, but two goals in the last five minutes from Balotelli and Aleksandar Kolarov meant that City escaped with a point. Man United Fwho play on Monday can go five points clear at the top with a win.

Manchester City regain lead in top of premier league this weekend but they could actually lose more ground with Manchester United should the Red Devils win their next league game against Fulham on Monday.

The Eastlands only managed to get a point against Stoke City on Saturday and although they are now on level points with United but obviously a victory for Sir Alex Ferguson side on Monday would make the gap becomes three point.

While a lot of attention was focused on battle for fourth place at Stamford Bridge today, there were some really big wins for teams involved at the other end of the season.

The biggest win of the day had to Wigan Athletic beating Liverpool 2-1 at Anfield. In four days Kenny Dalglish’s side have now lost to teams in the bottom three of the table.

Wigan went ahead whenShaun Maloney calmly converted a penalty on the half-hour mark following a high challenge by Martin Skrtel on Victor Moses.
