Two second half goals from Yaya Touré kept Manchester City are on the verge of winning their first league title since 1968.

The title race will go down to the last game of the season after Manchester United beat Swansea City 2-0, but it would be a monumental collapse if City did not win the title now.

In a tense match at St. James Park, Newcastle frustrated and harried City for 70 minutes before Yaya Toure broke the deadlock with a superb shot from the edge of the box.

Newcastle United bounce back from last weekend’s crushing blow against Wigan Athletic by beating fellow Champions League place chasers, Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge, thanks to Pappis Demba Cisse’s two spectacular goals.

This result maintain the Magpies’ dream in qualifying for that final fourth spot alive, while the Blues got their road halted as they’re now four points behind that final Champions zone with only two games left to play.

Arsenal failed again to grab the all important three points as their attempt in running away from their competitors for third place halted again, this time by Stoke City, who held Arsene Wenger’s side 1-1 at Brittania Stadium.

However, their current third place spot is still safe because their closest rival, Newcastle United were surprisingly trashed by relegation battler, Wigan Athletic, 4-0 at DW Stadium, a shocking result indeed for Alan Pardew’s boys.

Newcastle United get themselves back in the Champions League zone after successfully beating Stoke City 3-0, leaving their rival Tottenham Hotspurs behind, as Harry Redknapp’s boys picked up another defeat on the weekend, this time against Queens Park Rangers.

French midfielder, Yohan Cabaye, put on a classy performance on the day as he bagged a brace and also assisted Pappiss Demba Cisse for the other goal, putting Newcastle on a potential surprise Champions League inclusion thins summer.

In contrary to the title race between two Manchester sides, which are currently heading into Man United‘s favor, there’s still an epic battle for the Champions League place as this midweek results made things much more interesting.

Newcastle United‘s victory simply puts them on level point with Spurs, who were defeated by Norwich City, providing a potentially rough battle mostly for the fourth place spot since Chelsea are also on the running.

Newcastle United‘s magical season continues as they beat Swansea City 2-0 today, a win that has the Toon Army dreaming of Europe. The win lifted Newcastle above Chelsea into fifth place in the league, just two points off Arsenal and Tottenham in the race for third.

Both Newcastle goals were scored by Papiss Demba Cisse, who is fast becoming the signing of the season. Cisse joined Newcastle from German team Freiburg in January for a reported 10 million pounds and has now scored nine goals in his first eight games for Newcastle.

Tottenham Hotspur ended a five-match winless streak in the Premier League by beating Swansea City 3-1 at White Hart Lane, and as a result moved level on points with third-placed Arsenal.

Spurs took the lead on 19 minutes as Rafael van der Vaart converted a stylish, sidefooted effort from just outside the area after a sliding Ashley Williams had cut out Gareth Bale’s near-post cross.

But Swansea kept playing their impressive football and it was not a surprise when Gylfi Sigurdsson equalised on 59 minutes, however, hitting a bouncing volley into the bottom-left corner from the edge of the area following Wayne Routledge’s lay-off.

Manchester United extended their lead at the top of the Premier League to four points after a 5-0 thumping of Wolves at Molineux, while Newcastle United moved to within  five points of a Champions League place after they beat Norwich City 1-0.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s men barely had to get out of first gear as they were always in control at Molineux once they took the lead in the 21st minute through Jonny Evans’s first goal for the club.

Things went from bad to worse for the hosts when Ronald Zubar received his second yellow card five minutes before the break, and United punished them with two quick-fire goals.

Fabricio ColocciniNewcastle United‘s form this season have been pretty consistent, resulting in their excellent position in the league, sitting at sixth place with an open chance in chasing for the fourth place spot or at least finishing in Europa League zone.

This situation is obviously being acknowledged by Newcastle players, including their Argentinian center back, Fabrio Coloccini, who is excited with the situation but urged everyone to simply take one things at a time and shouldn’t be thinking too far about what European competition the team will play next season.

Manchester City maintained their 100% home record in the Premier League this season with a comfortable 3-0 victory against struggling Blackburn Rovers.

Mario Balotelli made a sustained period of pressure tell for Roberto Mancini’s team, who are five points clear of Manchester United ahead of their trip to Norwich on Sunday, when he turned in Aleksandar Kolarov’s cross after 30 minutes. Sergio Agüero put the game beyond Rover’s reach when he scored in the 52nd minute and Edin Džeko headed in the third, two minutes after coming on.
