Amazing how Tom Ovrebo has suddenly decided to speak out after more than 3 years on the controversial ruling that cost Chelsea a place in the 2009 Champions League finals in Rome.

The Norwegian who still claims to get death threats to this day (doesn’t surprise me), now admits that had he to do it over again, he would probably do things differently.

Of course, this would be helpful and appropriate had it come three years earlier, however, despite it still being hard for many fans to take they can look forward to  tonight’s fixture with expectation and the hope that history will not repeat itself.

As you would expect, Tottenham are not about to let Juan Mata’s goal slide just like that. Tottenham were 5-1 losers to Chelsea last night at Wembley to effectively see them cap a horrible couple of weeks with a second successive loss.

Having already lost their 3rd place league standing to local North London rivals Arsenal, Spurs were looking to end their season on a high with chance of some silverware by making it to the May 5th final, however, their dream was quashed by an equally impressive Chelsea side.

Chelsea‘s Uruguayan target Edison Cavani has been offered a £3.7m per year salary by Juventus should he choose to leave Napoli at the end of the season however, a transfer fee has not been agreed. With Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis wanting €50m (£41.2m) or €60m (£49.3m) for the 26 year old, it is hard to see Cavani joining Juventus.

Juve are currently unbeaten in the league this season and it is such impressive displays that have general manager Giuseppe Marotta keen on bolstering the club’s attack with European football on the cards next season.

Chelsea‘s Serbian defender Branislav Ivanovic’s appeal against a violent conduct charge has been dismissed by the FA. The 28 year old will now miss Chelsea’s semi-final FA cup fixture against Tottenham on Sunday. A statement from the FA read:

“Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic’s appeal against an FA charge for violent conduct has been dismissed. The incident, which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video, occurred during his side’s game against Wigan at Stamford Bridge on Saturday 7 April 2012.  A Regulatory Commission heard the claim today and Ivanovic’s three match suspension will commence with immediate effect. “

In contrary to the title race between two Manchester sides, which are currently heading into Man United‘s favor, there’s still an epic battle for the Champions League place as this midweek results made things much more interesting.

Newcastle United‘s victory simply puts them on level point with Spurs, who were defeated by Norwich City, providing a potentially rough battle mostly for the fourth place spot since Chelsea are also on the running.

Chelsea‘s slide down the table standings continued Monday when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Fulham at Craven Cottage. Following Tottenham‘s loss to Norwich City, the stage was perfectly set for the Blues to secure that elusive 4th spot however, a late Clint Dempsey header cancelled out Frank Lampard’s 45th minute goal to further dent Chelsea hopes for European action next season.

Following the result, Chelsea coach Roberto condemns Di Matteo has refused to throw in the towel over his sides Champions League qualification. According to Di Matteo, Chelsea will now have to win their remaining 5 matches if they are to end the season in 4th place. However, with fixtures against City, Newcastle and Arsenal still to be played, this is a task easier said than done.

Chelsea once again managed to carry their positive European form back into the league as they picked up an important victory against Wigan Athletic on Saturday with a late goal from Juan Mata.

The match were once again a very tight one for the Blues but Mata’s goal in the final minute simply brought an important step for their fourth place spot ambition as they’re keeping pace with the teams above them.

Chelsea‘s John Terry says that the reason he left the game against Benfica last night was that he is struggling to breathe during games after cracking two ribs in the first leg in Lisbon.

Terry played the full 90 minutes against Aston Villa at the weekend, but he he was forced off after an hour of the sceond leg last night.

In a statement this afternoon, Chelsea confirmed the injury to their captain saying:

Scans confirm that John has two cracked ribs sustained in last week’s game in Portugal. We have been able to manage it and will continue to do so.

Following their progress into the last 4 of the Champions League, a lot of criticism is emerging towards Chelsea‘s chances of making it all the way to the final. After their 8-2 aggregate win over APEOEL, Madrid coach Jose Mourinho has already ruled out chances of his side meeting Chelsea in the final saying that his arch rivals Barcelona were the ‘super favourites’ to win the fixture.

Also adding his voice to the growing debate was a bitter Benfica coach Jorge Jesus who dismissed Chelsea’s chances of making it to the finals. Jesus believes that Chelsea’s made it through thanks to some poor refereeing decisions saying that his team had beaten better sides than Chelsea.
