Stamford Bridge, ChelseaGetting close in securing Gary Cahill from Bolton Wanderers, Chelsea apparently will still continue their surge in the winter transfer market and capture at least another quality player.

This confirmation was revealed by the club’s tactician, Andre Villas-Boas, who unfortunately still can’t confirm, whose the other player they’re trying to grab this January aside from Cahill.

Chelsea moved back up to fourth place in the Premier League after picking up a 2-1 away victory against Wolves, although it took an 89th-minute winner by Frank Lampard to end Chelsea’s four-match winless run.

Stephen Ward thought he had done enough to earn Wolves their fourth consecutive draw when he cancelled out Ramires’s second-half effort with just five minutes remaining, but Lampard pounced to take the Blues a point above Arsenal, who failed to reclaim fourth spot after losing 2-1 at Fulham.

Shape Up Or Ship Out

by Philip Mboya on January 1, 2012

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has been handed a stern warning by his national team coach Vicente Del Bosque to shape up or suffer missing an inclusion in his Euro 2012 squad.

Torres has struggled to replicate his Liverpool form since his record  £50 million move last January having managed to score only 3 goals in all appearances. Del Bosque’s concerns are further made worse by torres’s lack of regular play.

Speaking to AS Del Bosque was quoted as saying that if Torres’s situation does not change, then he will be forced to exclude him from his final 23 man squad to the Euro 2012 tournament.

The holiday schedule always throws up upsets and today was no exception as both Manchester United and Chelsea lost at home.

United was maybe the biggest surprise of the season as they lost 3-2 at home to Blackburn Rovers, on what was Sir Alex Ferguson turned 70th birthday.

United missed a great chance to go top of the league and Blackburn fully deserved the win. It was Rovers who scored first through a Yakubu penalty. Yakubu then made it 2-0 before two goals from Dimitar Berbatov brought United back to level terms. But then a howler from De Gea with 10 minutes to go gave Blackburn al three points. United remain level on points with Manchester City, who can move three points clear at the top of the Premier League when they face Sunderland on Sunday

The day before a match is the media’s time to meet with players and managers to ask questions and talk about team news. For most reporters this is their only opportunity to ask the manager a question. Here are some video’s from today’s conferences involving Roberto Mancini, Andre Villas-Boas, Landon Donovan and Steve Kean:

Former Chelsea forward Joe Cole has emerged from total obscurity to comment on the on going crisis at his former club. Cole who is now with French outfit Lille was quoted as saying that Chelsea made a big mistake in sacking Ancelotti.

I could not agree more. After failing to defend their Premier League title and getting knocked out of the Champions League for the umpteenth time, Abramovich did the only thing he knew best and sacked Ancelotti hoping to replace him with someone who could guarantee him immediate success.

FC Porto forward Hulk has once again been linked with a move to London club Chelsea. However with Kaka and Krasic in the market, his chances of joining the Blues are getting slimmer and slimmer everyday.

Villas-Boas who knows Hulk from his days as Coach of Porto is known to be a great admirer of the Brazilian forward, however, with a buyout clause of  $130 million dollars, and Chelsea’s growing debt, Hulk is out of reach for even Abramovich’s billions.

That has not stopped his agent from leaving the door open for any offers from the Blues. Speaking to reporters, Theodoro Fonseca maintained that anything is possible.

Malouda lines up a crossNot having the amount of playing time which he would’ve wanted apparently bring a little disappointment for Chelsea‘s Florent Malouda, who revealed that he still have strong desire to have a much more important role that what his having at the moment.

The French international went on “threatening” to leave the club if nothing is changing pretty soon as he does have several offers coming even in this upcoming winter transfer market.

Trouble is brewing for Andres Villas-Boas and Chelsea after a number of poor performances have left them out of the title race and raised concerns from players who are willing to quit the club if their pleas are not addressed.

Truth be said, the longer Villas-Boas stays in charge the worse it gets for Chelsea and as a matter of fact, he should be replaced as quickly as possible (however unlikely this may be).

Personally, i do not think the players are to blame. AVB simply does not know how how to arrange his players. In fact, if anything,he seems to be experimenting with each game Chelsea play.

Chelsea flag in the crowd at Stamford BridgeThe draw that Chelsea achieved against Fulham on Monday, puts their chance in challenging for title becomes difficult again and this situation is also being admitted by the club’s manager, Andre Villas-Boas.

The Portuguese tactician doesn’t want to say that everything is already over, since the competition is still long, but the ex-Porto coach admitted that it’s much more wiser for his team to focus on their results first before looking at the top teams ahead of them.
