Carroll Responds To Critics

by Philip Mboya on February 1, 2012

Andy Carroll who has come under intense fire from the Liverpool faithful the past few weeks for his inconsistent performances, responded to his critics by scoring in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Wolves yesterday.

The £35 million signing from Newcastle opened the scoring for the Reds, to take his tally for the club to 7. The evening capped a fine first year anniversary for Carroll with coach Kenny Dalglish terming his performance as ‘fantastic’.

“We’re pleased with everybody. It was a great finish for the first goal,” Dalglish said. “[It was] a great ball in from Charlie Adam and a great finish from Andy, who played really well. If [Carroll] gets a goal he gets a goal, but his contribution is fantastic.”

Lverpool’s win means they leapfrog Arsenal into 5th place and remain just 4 points behind Chelsea who drew 1-1 with Swansea. Talking about Chelsea, the blues need an injury time own goal to save them from an embarrassing defeat.

However, AVB downplayed the whole issue saying that a draw was a fair result and that the game could have gone either way.

“I think there were two different halves in the game,” he said.

“In the first half, Swansea had most of the chances and it was completely different in the second where we had all the chances. I think that if the first goal had come earlier, we would have found a second, because we had the motivation, the impetus and the control of the game. We left it very, very late. We persisted a lot to find it, [the goal] but it came late and didn’t give us enough time to score the second.”

This latest setback raises more questions on whether AVB would still be Chelsea coach next season. With Abramovich being a person of instant results, i highly doubt whether he does have the patience to give AVB another chance.

And if in case he does not, it will be amazing to see who replaces the 34 year old former Porto tactician. My bet is on Guus Hiddink , however, we will not know until the season ends.
