Captaincy Helped Van Persie’s Growth

Robin Van PersieRobin Van Persie get his 100th goal for Arsenal on the weekend after bagging a brace against Bolton in the league and the Dutchman’s fine performance earned praises from his manager, Arsene Wenger, who believes that the captaincy given to Van Persie this season was the key of the striker’s growth.

The Gunners’ may not be performing brilliantly so far, but Van Persie have been providing several important goals which helped his team in some important matches both in the premiership or Champions League.

Wenger admitted that giving the captaincy from Fabregas to Van Persie didn’t seemed natural at first as the Dutchman isn’t actually much of a talker in the squad, but the former Feyenoord youngster managed to prove his worth on the pitch. The French tactician even believed that with the responsibility that Van Persie is currently having for the Gunners, the striker will keep on improving his game and especially maturity on the pitch.

You would think he is not natural at the start but when he has the responsibility he really grows well into the role. I have observed him and he does very well. He does not talk a lot to the other players because he is not a talker but he speaks his mind. I think he is one of these guys who develops with responsibilities,” Wenger stated.

Wenger’s confident over Van Persie is definitely an important attempt from the manager in trying to keep hold of the striker as there’s always a chance that the Dutch International might follow the footsteps of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, who both leave the club this summer. The ex-Feyenoord’s forward’s contract is set to expire in 2014 and should nothing convincing can be promised until next season there’s a very good chance that the skipper might abandoned his responsibility and continue his footballing career elsewhere.
