Capello said to be furious over Terry sacking

by David on February 4, 2012

The Daily Mirror is reporting that England manager Fabio Capello is said to be furious over the sacking today of his captain John Terry.

According to the report Capello fought for Terry to remain as England captain until the bitter end and only accepted the FA’s decision with extreme reluctance.

The England manager is reported to have even pored over the details of his contract to check whether he had the right to veto the FA’s decision.

In the end, Capello had to accept that he was powerless to intervene, but he is still deeply unhappy about the situation.

As to who will replace Terry as England skipper, within an hour of the FA decision, former England captain Rio Ferdinand announced that he was not interested in reclaiming the job he lost to Terry 11 months ago.

That leaves the logical choice to be Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard to lead England at Euro 2012 just as he did in South Africa in 2010. The only problem with that choice is that Gerrard has not played for England in 14 months because of injury. Will he be fit enough to play in a major tournament like the Euro’s?

Another name being mentioned late Friday was Spurs‘ Scott Parker. That would be an interesting choice as two years ago he could not get into Capello’s World Cup squad, and he is not Tottenham‘s captain.

Who do you think should be the next England captain?
