Bobby Zamora In England Squad For Euro 2012 Qualifier

by David on May 23, 2011

Bobby Zamora is back in the England squad after recovering from injuries that cost him to miss most of the season for Fulham. Zamora scored four goals in 11 matches for Fulahm, and with Andy Carroll injured and Wayne Rooney suspended, Zamora was one of four forwards named by England coach Fabio Capello in his 26-man squad for next month’s 2012 European Championship qualifier against Switzerland.

Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand also returns after missing several matches because of injury, with the captaincy passing back to John Terry in the meantime.

Arsenal‘s Jack Wilshere is also named to Capello’s squad, which should mean that he will not be playing for the England under 21′s this summer, a move that will please Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.

With Ben Foster not making himself available for England selection anymore, and Robert Green’s disinterest in being Joe Hart’s backup, England’s goalkeepers look very weak if something should happen to Hart. Scott Carson and David Stockdale do not inspire a lot of confidence.

England Squad:
Goalkeepers: Scott Carson (West Bromwich Albion), Joe Hart (Manchester City), David Stockdale (Fulham).

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Bolton), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Joleon Lescott (Manchester City), John Terry (Chelsea), Kyle Walker (Tottenham).

Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Stewart Downing (Aston Villa), Adam Johnson (Manchester City), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Manchester City), Scott Parker (West Ham), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal), Ashley Young (Aston Villa).

Strikers: Darren Bent (Aston Villa), Peter Crouch (Tottenham), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Bobby Zamora (Fulham).
