Berbatov Says he Is Staying With Man United

by David on June 2, 2011

In an interview with a Bulgarian newspaper, Dimitar Berbatov insisted that he will be playing for Manchester United next season.

“I’m a Manchester United player and will be glad to fulfill my contract,” said Berbatov, whose contract expires in 2012.

In the interview, Berbatov also denied earlier reports that he had left Wembley Stadium ahead of the Champions League final on Saturday. He said he watched the game on TV in the dressing room.

“I was just disappointed and ashamed that I was left out of the squad. Because I can’t hide my emotions, I didn’t want people to see how sad I was.”

Berbatov was the Premier League’s joint top scorer this season with 20 goals as United won its 19th league title, and he vowed to help the club win the title again next year.

“I’m very proud of this. I came to England from a little country and I know that during every training session, during every game I have to be better that the others because I’m a foreigner. Manchester United is the highest step for me,” Berbatov said, adding that everything after that would be a step down. Of course, this moment will come but for the time being I want to stay with Manchester United and help my team win the 20th title, which I’m sure is on its way.”

If you are a United fan it is good to hear that Berba wants to come back and fight for a place in the side next season. The big question is whether that is what Fergie wants? Berbatov has one year left on his current contract and there is a difference in opinion between his agents and the club as to what he should be paid. If they cannot come to an agreement this summer, I expect United to sell Berbatov, so that they don’t lose him for nothing in a years time.
