AVB: Torres Will Not Be Sold

by Philip Mboya on December 16, 2011

Under fire Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has gotten backing from coach Andre Villas- Boas concerning his future with the club. The Spanish international who was bought from Liverpool in January for £50 million, has consistently been included in Chelsea’s starting 11 in spite of his lack of goals.

You can practically count the number of goals Torres has scored as a Chelsea player on one hand a sharp contrast to the player he was only a year ago. According to AVB, he is willing to tolerate another year of poor results from the Spaniard if that is what it will take to restore hi back to his former glory.

The Chelsea manager mentioned clearly that Torres would not be sold when the window opens next month and that with Drogba leaving for the Africa Cup of Nations, Torres will be his number 1 choice for the position of striker as he believes all that is lacking from Torres is motivation and self confidence.

“I think it comes with self-confidence and motivation and hitting the back of the net,” he said.

“This was happening for Fernando in the first two or three months of the season. It has been Didier’s run at the moment but we are pretty sure that Fernando will return strongly again.

So just how much longer will the Chelsea fans continue to bear crap results from one of the best strikers in the world? Not very long i can tell you. Even worse if Drogba leaves the club at the end of the season.

By the look of it, that is a huge possibility as Chelsea have not presented any tangible offer to him. One thing is definitely sure, fans will never be able to get over it especially if you consider how Drogba has consistently bailed them out on a number of occasions.

On Torres style of play, this is what AVB had to say:

“Fernando is a very, very mobile player, likes the flanks – left flank – to come in, likes balls in behind, is a player who also comes short between the lines with good technical ability to lay off the ball to his colleagues.”
