AVB Takes Another Swipe At The Sun

by Philip Mboya on December 13, 2011

So Chelsea ended Manchester City‘s unbeaten run in the league, this should be the main story making headlines right? Well, it is, however, another very interesting story are the reports claiming that Coach Andres Villas-Boas asked the Chelsea players to include him in their goal celebrations.

These rumours come on the back of AVB’s rant to the press more than a week ago for only focusing on the Chelsea’s problems and not successes. If the reports are true, then this would definitely be the lowest Chelsea have sunk in their entire history.

British media can be very critical, however, suggesting that AVB held a ‘secret meeting’ with his players and staff  where he instructed them to celebrate goals on the touchline to show team unity are simply unbelievable.

AVB reacted to the reports saying that he is not an arrogant self centred person who desires attention.

“I am not arrogant. I would never ask the player to celebrate with me. Celebrations are for the players to express themselves.

“This story is incorrect, untrue and unfair. I already told them (The Sun) that if they pay an informant they should get their money back. They have produced two false stories in as many weeks.”

So what foes this latest win mean for Chelsea and hw does it leave the league standings?  Well,  City still lead the table with 38 points although the points gap over second place Manchester United has been significantly dropped to 2 points.

Chelsea are third 7 points off the pace set by City, while London rivals Tottenham and Arsenal follow respectively with 31 and 29 points each. The next round of matches will see Arsenal travel to Manchester to face City in another explosive encounter.

Meanwhile, Chelsea will be away to Wigan, United will be away to Queens Park Rangers and Tottenham will welcome Sunderland to the White Hart Lane. City’s once unassailable lead now looks to have been cut down and only time will tell if the title challengers can keep the momentum and go all the way.
