shaygiven0707yx8Losing two important players already in the summer transfer market, Aston Villa, finally started to rebuild their team and the goal keeper position is the first area which they decided to start by signing Shay Given from Manchester City.

The Republic of Ireland international goalie is always being considered as one of the best keepers in the premiership and acquiring him is believed to be a great piece of business for Villa.

Aston Villa’s manager, Alex McLeish, is very excited with Given’s arrival as although the keeper has been spending much of last season in the bench as the second choice after Joe Hart, the ex-Newcastle United goalie still have great qualities. McLeish is confident that his new signing will be very eager to prove his worth this season and that spirit is something that would give nothing more than just a positive impact for Villa.

“Shay has come here probably with something of a point to prove and that won’t do any harm at all. Everybody who has watched him perform over many years in the Premier League will know his pedigree, so we believe we have secured the services of one of the best goalkeepers in the business,” McLeish. “He’s a real competitor and a world-class keeper and I’m delighted he’s the first signing I’ve made at Villa.”

Meanwhile, Given himself is also excited about having the chance to show his qualities again as a number one keeper in a premiership club saying that he is ready to give his best for the club and impresses the Villa fans. The goalie is also keen in working with McLeish, as the keeper believes that being also the new man at Villa park, the ex-Birmingham City’s manager might have the same vision and ambition.

”Aston Villa is a huge football club and I’m really excited to be joining. I’m looking forward to training and playing with the players here. I’m also excited to be working with Alex McLeish and it’s going to be a fresh start for everybody at the club this season,” Given said. It’s also a new challenge and one I’m eager to embrace. My aim is to impress the Aston Villa supporters with my performances and I can’t wait really to get started.”
