The Winter transfer window is just around the corner and many clubs are already flying their agents to every continent to scout for the best talent. Chelsea coach Villas-Boas has already sent out his newly appointed European scout to Italy to look for a replacement for the aging Didier Drogba while fellow London Club Arsenal through their manager/scout Arsene Wenger have already set their eyes on Borussia Mochengladbach forward Marcos Reus.
This news comes on the backdrop of rumours that the club’s Russian forward Andrey Ashavin could be on his way out of the Emirates. Arshavin who is tired of being benched, has made it clear that he will leave the club if his situation does not change.
Speaking to Sport Express, Arshavin revealed that he just cannot understand Arsene Wenger’s philosophy that benches players regardless of their performance on the pitch.
“Right now I don’t think about changing clubs. If I will be benched for a very long time, then such an issue might be relevant,” Arshavin said.
“I still want to play for 90 minutes, but now I am glued to the bench. I wouldn’t like to play for a Russian club other than Zenit [St Petersburg], and there were no contacts with Anzhi Makhachkala.
“I still support Barcelona. They are the best team.”
Arshavin had some pretty harsh words for his manager calling him a ‘stubborn individual’ and saying that him leaving the club will only happen ‘when he feels like it’ as he has the full support of the board.
With Wenger keen on enforcing his one season contract extension to players over the age of 30, it looks most certain that Reus could be an Arsenal player within the next few weeks.
The 21 year old who can play on the wing or in attack has scored 7 goals so far this season and it is this form that led his coach Lucien Favre to talk with Wenger about the forward.
Favre did acknowledge that he had communicated with Wenger but stated that he has no intention of selling his player.
“Yes, Jens Lehmann gave him a tip to watch Marco. Then Arsene called me,” Favre told Bild.
“I know Arsene very well and told him the truth: Marco is a very, very interesting player. But I am coach of Borussia and want to keep him.”
In light of this, i must ask, will Arsenal miss Arshavin if he leaves?
