Arsenal youngster Jack Wilshere has pledged to remain with the Gunners for life. The forward who is out with an ankle injury also explained how much he hoped to part of the new wave of Arsenal players along with team mates Aaron Ramsey and Kieran Gibbs who will take the club to greater heights.
I especially like tracking the progress made by youngster, i believe Wilshere will be part if not the main part in Arsenal’s future dominance, however, looking at the trend set in the past by other youngster in different clubs, i am not to keen to take Wilshere’s words as readily as others would.
Here is why. A couple of years ago, i watched an interview where Emmanuel Adebayor, then an Arsenal player, was considering moving away from the club due to money issues.
Adebayor said something that has stuck with me ever since. He said that when he was young, playing football was all he ever wanted to do and that it did not matter how much he got paid, all that mattered is that he was doing what he loved.
However, as he started to grow older, he realised that much as he liked football, it also became clear to him that this was his profession and he was much more than the 35,000 Pounds he was getting every single week in wages.
This is where his relationship with the club started to sour. Eventually the Togolese went on to leave the club and in the process got a wage that he thought matched his abilities. Now the point of the story is that though, Wilshere is a great talent and he sees himself playing for Arsenal for a long time, things can change and they can change at the time you least expect it.
Speaking to iFilm London, this is what he had to say:
“I promise that, yeah. I’ve been at the club since I was nine and learned to love it.
“From the [Patrick] Vieira days, to [Dennis] Bergkamp, [Cesc] Fabregas, I’ve watched them come through and move on. There’s a crop of new players, [Aaron] Ramsey, myself, Kieran Gibbs…hopefully we can really create something special.
“I love the club and I want to be part of its future.”
That said, it would be amazing for Wilshere to do to Arsenal what Maldini did to Milan.
