Arsenal To Unveil Statues Of Club Icons

by Philip Mboya on December 9, 2011

Arsenal are set to mark their 125th anniversary by unveiling statues of club heroes Thierry Henry, Tony Adams and Herbert Chapman today. The North London club have an amazing history that has seen them relegated only once in their entire history. It isn’t any wonder why then they are one of the most supported clubs in the world.

Club hero and record goal scorer Thierry Henry who scored an impressive 226 goals in 370 appearances for the Gunners is expected to be at the ceremony which comes a day before the club face Everton in a league fixture.

Tony Adams captain of the Gunners for a decade, was instrumental to the club’s success in the 90s and has the great distinction of helping the Gunners win thre titles in three different decades.

Herbet Chapman on the other hand was coach of Arsenal in the 1920sand 30s and steered the club to two league titles. It is only sad that for the rich history that the club has, they have struggled to stamp their authority to their fans liking in England and Europe for the past 7 years.

Meanwhile, former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas has expressed sadness at leaving the club without ever wining the Premier League title. Speaking ahead of the much awaited Clasico against rivals Real Madrid.

Speaking to Four Four Two, Fabregas maintained that he had given all for Arsenal and that he had no regrets leaving the Gunners.

“I’ll always have that thorn in my side, that sadness,” Fabregas said.

“I wish I had gone having won something, at least to leave with a title.

“We never had a team like Manchester United or Chelsea, who have always had a base of seven or eight players together for years.

On comments that he took the easiest way out by going to a team that had world class players, this is what he had to say.

“I think I took the hardest option,”

“I will have to work twice as hard to win a place as I did in London.

“I’m not guaranteed a starting position. I’m competing with the best central midfielders in the world, some of the best in history.”
