Arsenal Sign Brazilian Left Back Andre dos Santos

by David on August 30, 2011

I wrote yesterday that I was really surprised why Arsenal were selling Armand Traore to QPR as it left them really short at left-back. Well the reason for that transfer is apparent know as the Gunners are reported to have signed Brazilian left back Andre dos Santos from Fenerbahce for a reported £6.2million.

The 28-year-old attacking defender(yes I said 28 and not 18) scored 10 goals in 52 games for Fenerbahce since joining from Corinthians and has 22 Brazil caps.

He is expected to have a medical with Arsenal on Tuesday before completing a four-year deal worth £40,000 a week.

Kiernan Gibbs was the heir apparent to the departed Gael Clichy, but after getting injured again, it seems that Wenger has decided enough is enough, and brought in a left-back with some experience.

Now word yet on a center-half or midfield player although I expect Arsenal to sign Cahill and someone else before the window closes.

Thoughts on the signing of dos Santos? If you have not seen him play, here is some video highlights
