Arsenal Injury Shock As Vermaelen Out For Two Months After Surgery

by David on September 6, 2011

Vermaelen Organising The DeffenceThe Mirror is reporting that Arsenal defender Thomas Vermaelen underwent surgery in Stockholm on his left Achilles Momday and as a result could be out for two months.

Huge blow to the Gunners especially with the news yesterday that Jack Wilshere could be out for up to three months also.

Vermaelen’s latest Achilles injury is on the other leg to the one which kept him out for almost all of last season.

It appears that Vermaelen took a kick on his leg during the Udinese game nearly two weeks ago. But after two weeks of rest, the injury was still bothering him and Arsenal took a decision to operate quickly rather than risk a repeat of last season where the injury dragged on all season.

Luckily Arsenal have their new German signing Per Mertesacker to jump straight into central defence but losing Vermaelen is a big blow to the team.
