After the Cesc Fabregas’ long saga ended two weeks ago, Arsenal finally closed their chapter with Samir Nasri as on Tuesday, August 23, the Gunners officially announced that the French midfielder is Manchester City bound.
After keeping the player for quite a while and even playing him in the league last week, the London outfit announced on their official site that they’ve reached an agreement with City to release the ex-Marseille player.
Arsenal can confirm that they have agreed terms for Samir Nasri to move to Manchester City. The 24-year-old midfielder, who has spent three years with the Gunners, has been omitted from Arsenal’s squad which flies to Udinese this afternoon and instead will travel north for a medical. The move will be subject to Nasri passing a medical and formal registration processes,” read a statement on Arsenal’s official site.
The announcement is pretty much something that many have been expected as it arrived just before the Gunners played their second leg tie against Udinese in the Champions League, because should Nasri is used on the match than he won’t be able to play with City in the same competition. This decision is also something unavoidable since the player’s contract is expiring and the Frenchman isn’t keen on extending his deal with Arsenal, because the doubt over the club’s ability in challenging for trophies in the coming future.
Nasri’s departure will definitely be a challenging moment for Arsene Wenger’s team especially ahead of their important Champions League tie against Italian outfit Udinese in Italy, which could be a definitive game for their season. Obviously, the Gunners needs to find replacement for the likes of Fabregas and Nasri, so should they fail to advance in the next stage of UCL, it would be harder for Wenger to persuade quality talents this summer.
