Former Chelsea Coach Carlo Ancelotti believes that English sides Arsenal and Chelsea will struggle against Italian opponents AC Milan and Napoli. The 52 year old further went on to say that state of the game in England is ‘unwell’.
These are very interesting remarks coming from a coach who helped led the Blues to the Premier League title in 2009/2010. The tactician did not have any kind words for his former team Chelsea as he said that, Napoli would go into the tie as the favourites.
To be honest, Ancelotti, could have a point as Chelsea have not really shown a real seriousness to challenge for any titles. Their inconsistency, will be their major undoing if not rectified early. Wining one game then drawing and losing their following fixtures, does not help their standings in the league nor boost their mentality.
Speaking to the Sun, Ancelotti was quoted as saying that the matches were balanced, however, Napoli has a edge over Chelsea.
“They are balanced matches with the Italians as favourites,” he said.
“Italian football has made steps forward and after the elimination of City and United, English football is not very well.
“Napoli can play Chelsea as equals. Napoli have already had a little difficult period, but it seems they’re getting back on track.”
On Arsenal, Ancelotti could not deny the fact that he was a Milan fan and that to him it just was not possible for the Londoners to progress at the expense of the 7 time champions.
I am a Milan fan, so I find it hard to be rational. But they are superior to Arsenal. They have great players,” he concluded.
Though everyone is quick to pick Milan as the winners for the tie, many fans remain cautious as the Rossoneri are also known to make huge blunders especially when it comes to matches of this magnitude. All in all the match will be a must watch and must win for both sides.
Meanwhile Arsenal manager Arsene Wnger has admitted that their title hopes could be over after their 1-0 loss to City on Sunday. The Gunners are 12 points off the pace as they prepare for a tough away fixture against Aston Villa tomorrow.
