The 3-0 defeat that Chelsea had last weekend against Sunderland seems to cause a little bit panic in the team as the Blues reportedly are ready to take a risk in playing their unfit center backs, Alex and John Terry, in the next two matches.
According to the London club’s coach, Carlo Ancelotti, the two defenders are likely to be played in turn for the next two games, Alex for this weekend league match against Birmingham while Terry could be available after Saturday game.
“Alex will be available to play. This is good news. He trained with the Brazilian team. We know that he needs to have the surgery. We are in a position that we can procrastinate [over] this but we know that he needs to have the surgery. He trained after the meeting with the Brazilian doctor and was on the bench, so it’s not a risk. It’s not a risk but his knee needs to be cleaned,” Ancelotti explained about Alex’ condition.
“There’s a muscle on John’s leg, the piriformis muscle, and the nerve moves, so he feels pain, “He will not be involved in the game tomorrow(Saturday) but maybe it can happen that in the next game he will be able to play. Because he has pain he is not able to play and for us he is a very important player but I think we can move on this problem quickly,” the tactician added.
Revealing about his two defenders’ condition, Ancelotti admitted that both players are not 100% fit but although it’s risky he believes the experience of the two can prove decisive and important for the team’s playing. Answering question about the possibility of signing a new defender in the winter, the former Ac Milan coach stated that the transfer plan will definitely depends on the development of Alex and Terry’s condition.
“It depends what happens with Alex and in the next few days with John Terry. Obviously, if both players are not able to play for a long time, I think we have to think about this, but just in that case,” Ancelotti answered about a potential January move for a new defender.
Considering the condition that both Terry and Alex are having, the decision made by Chelsea could definitely be a risky business as playing an unfit player could always resulted in making the injury much more worse. Although Ancelotti tried to tone down the problem, playing an unfit players in a game is pretty much a gamble that could resulted positively or negatively for his team, the latest evidence of the outcome can be seen this Saturday when the Blues takes on Birmingham City in the league.
