Ancelotti Prepares Torres-Drogba Duo For Spurs Challenge

by Dewa Nugraha on April 29, 2011

'El niño' TorresJust as he said after the match against West Ham United last weekend, Chelsea‘s coach, Carlo Ancelotti, once again retaliate his plan to once again try out Didier Drogba and Fernando Torres, partnership.

Ancelotti believes that although the duet wasn’t working earlier on, this time it might finally click especially since Torres has already open his account for the Blues last weekend, while Drogba’s performance has also improved in the past few weeks.

The ex-Ac Milan coach seems eager to make Drogba-Torres’ partnership works since theoretically if the two strikers click, the Blues’ fire power would be gun blazing since both players are world class strikers that can produce tons of goals. Although he won’t guarantee that the partnership will be launched again when Chelsea face Tottenham Hotspurs this weekend, but Ancelotti revealed that the possibilities are very big, especially since it has been tested in the training ground.

“We have worked with them in training, It’s too early to decide yet but it won’t be a surprise if they start together on Saturday. When you have good players, you have to try to put them together. Maybe they can sacrifice something of their ability, of their skills, but they can play together. If you are able to do this, I think it is good for the team, to get good results,” Ancelotti said.

It would be interesting to see whether the goal that Torres scored last weekend has really lift his performance back into his best again, as if it does happen than the partnership with Drogba could probably work since the Ivory Coast international can be a very supportive striker for his partner. One of the thing that caused the duo to fail earlier on is because the Spaniard’s low confidence that made him looked very rusty on the pitch.

Morever, Ancelotti also stated that he is targeting nothing more than a victory against Spurs as it’s the only way that they can put some pressure on current league leader, Manchester United, who will play a day after against another title rival, Arsenal. Considering the quality of the opponent, it’s obvious that the ex-Milan tactician really hopes that the Drogba-Torres combo can finally leave up to their expectation and provide some thrilling action for the Blues’ fans.

if we can beat Tottenham we will only be three points behind them(Manchester United) and that would be fantastic,” Ancelotti added. “That will be good motivation for us because we need to put pressure on United before their game at Arsenal on Sunday. The closer we can get to them, the more pressure we will put on them.
