A draw against Swansea in their last premier league match apparently gave a pretty disappointing feeling for Liverpool players including, Daniel Agger, who is really annoyed with the inconsistency that his team showed this season.
Agger believes that if they don’t immediately step up their game, they most likely won’t be able to fulfill this season’s target in reaching the top four in the league, which means no Champions League football again for them next season.
Agger was so furious with the performance he and his teammates showed last weekend, that the Danish international even called themselves as headless chicken, only running around in the pitch without any positive purposes. With tough fixtures coming ahead of them, it’s very understandable that the center back is hoping for a much more improved performance as playing against the likes of Manchester City or Chelsea, would obviously much harder than facing Swansea.
Sometimes we looked like headless chickens running around after the ball. It is far from good enough. Everyone was angry and disappointed. If we play like this, we won’t do it [qualify for the Champions League] We have got to move up a level or two. I won’t say it is not possible, because it is, but it is up to the players. We are the only ones who can make a difference. We definitely have to do a lot better,” Aager stated.
Although Liverpool is still only three points away from the final Champions League spot (the fourth place), Agger’s concern is very reasonable since the competition in getting into that final place as there are at least two-three quality teams competing with them this season. With the strong investment the management have been putting on the side it’s very clear that acquiring Champions League football is a main target for Kenny Dalglish squad’s this season, especially with the fact that they isn’t participating in any European competition this season.
