Adebayor Admits Goal Celebration At Arsenal Was Overboard

by Philip Mboya on September 30, 2011

In what appears to be a move to make amends for his audacious goal celebrations at the Emirates close to 2 years ago, on loan Tottenham striker Emmanuel Adebayor has admitted that his actions were exaggerated.

I bet after watching the videos of his celebrations doing the rounds, Adebayor realises just how immature his actions were. It will be amazing to see whether Van Persie and himself will honour the pre-match formalities and uphold FIFA’s fair play motto by shaking hands especially especially after he purposefully stepped on Van Persie’s face in the in the ill tempered match.

“What happened two years ago was an accident and I do apologize to all the fans of Arsenal. Sometime the emotions, we cannot control them, we are all human beings,”

Arsenal fans have never really gotten over Adebayor’s actions and the only respite this time, is that Tottenham will be hosting the gunners. Expressing his admiration for the Arsenal fans, a remorseful Adebayor bitterly regreted his actions.

“I regret what I have done and I say sorry to everyone but at the end of the day sorry doesn’t change anything. For me it’s over.”

Turning back to the match, Arsenal find themselves in a very precarious position in position 13 with 7 points from 6 matches – not quite yet out of the danger zone. Tottenham on the other hand are in position 6 just 2 points above their city rivals.

A win for either of the clubs will see them move up the table and ease the pressure for their coaches – Arsene Wenger especially. So how will Adebayor celebrate if he scores?

“I’m looking forward to playing against Arsenal again on Sunday but believe me, if I have a chance to score, trust me I will score but as for the celebration, never in my life will I do something like that again,”

He definitely seems to have learned his lesson however, this is no guarantee that the match will be incident free. The rivalry between the two clubs occasionally shows up and looking at their history, that cannot be ruled out.
