Adam Johnson Expects More From City

by Dewa Nugraha on May 4, 2011

Rich club Manchester City are starting to grow themselves into one of the main power in the Premier League especially having already splashing millions in building such a competitive squad especially this season.

Considering that fact, City’s winger, Adam Johnson, felt a little bit disappointed that his club still unable to compete on the title race in this final stage of the season, despite having the chance to do it earlier in the competition.

Johnson believes that City actually have enough quality in the squad to challenge for the title along with Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal this season, but some poor results that they’re having this season ruined everything. The winger pretty much got things pretty spot on as Man City have been guilty at losing points against weaker teams, that supposedly easier for them to beat compared with other big clubs in the Premier League that Roberto Mancini’s team actually able to defeat.

“I’m disappointed that we are not in there. Personally, I think we should be and a lot of neutral people think we should be with the squad we have. But there was a couple of iffy results which we should have won,” Johnson said.

Despite already losing hope of clinching the title, Johnson actually still believe that City could probably make a push to finish a bit higher than their current position at fourth, considering that catching Arsenal at third is still possible. However, finishing the season in the Champions League zone would still be considered an achievement for Man City, hence that’s why the winger encouraged his teammates to keep pushing for points in the remaining matches and keeping themselves away from Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspurs’ challenge.

At the start of the season we wanted to be top two and having been in the top four all season we want to keep pushing,” Johnson added. “We might yet finish even higher than fourth. We’ve just got to keep going. But that result at Liverpool didn’t mean we thought Spurs could catch us. We knew we still had a few points on them and we’ve pushed that gap to seven, which is massive for us.”
