A Twist On De Gea-Man United Transfer?

by Dewa Nugraha on May 26, 2011

David De GeaA surprising twist might yet to arrive regarding Manchester United transfer plan after the latest report suggested that the Red Devils’ supposedly new keeper for next season, David De Gea, has denied Sir Alex Ferguson’s claim saying that they keeper will be playing at Old Trafford in the summer.

Speaking through his lawyer, Jose Bouzas Aragon, the Atletico Madrid starlet stated that he hasn’t sign anything with any club including Man United as he want to focus his mind on the upcoming European u-21 competition first.

I hereby deny information that appeared in various media today indicating that David de Gea Quintana, football player of Club Atletico de Madrid, has signed for Manchester United. It is not true that he has been signed. De Gea will not consider the contract extension offer from Atletico or any other offer until June 30 when he has finished his commitments with the Under-21 national team,” read the statement released by Aragon via Spanish news agency EFE.

Moreover, Atletico’s president, Enrique Cerezo, has also back De Gea’s statement by stating that he hasn’t received any official offer from United as just yet, adding that any clubs are allowed to negotiate with the young keeper should they are willing to pay the 17 million pound buy out clause. This two statements surely make things gets complicated especially after Ferguson himself previously stated to the press that they are getting the talented keeper as Edwin Van Der Sar’s replacement for next season.

“We don’t know anything. Officially neither Manchester [United] or the player at this moment have informed us of anything. He [De Gea] knows very well that he can negotiate [with other clubs] but always that they have to pay his buy-out clause,” Cerezo said

With two contrasting reports that arrives in just few days, some scenarios might be arriving in the mind of many expert as the denial might happened because there’s a problem with the fee at the moment or it might just be a temporary trick to calm things down as the season hasn’t officially over yet especially for United. However, should the denial turned out to be true it might just be a slap in United’s face considering that their manager has even confirmed the deal personally to the press not long ago. There might be much more clearer news shortly once all parties have time to relax from any football issues that are still on their mind at the moment.
