Tottenham Hotspurs ability to stay close with the two Manchester teams, especially with the Lilywhites’ latest victory over West Bromwhich Albiom, which continue to lift Spurs confidence in challenging for the title.
The London club’s winning goal scorer against West Brom, Jermaine Defoe, revealed that his team will continue to provide pressure towards Man City along with Man United, who are currently ahead of Harry Redknapp teams in the table.
Defoe himself actually admitted that Spurs players are also feeling a bit pressure at the moment, considering how close they are in reaching distance with the leaders. However, the England international striker believes that their current pressure is actually a pretty positive thing as it keeps them going and believing that there’s something big waiting in the end of their effort this season.
“City and United know we are a threat, and with every game that we keep on winning we can put pressure on them to keep winning,” Defoe said. We don’t feel negative pressure. We are enjoying it. But at the same time we know that it may not come again in the way that it has. This is such a good opportunity for us. We want to take it with both hands.”
Spurs’ consistent performance this season has somewhat been a surprising for many premiership lovers as they didn’t really looked that good in their early matches, losing to both Man United and Man City. However, once they managed to get their squad settle in the end of the summer transfer window by acquiring Emanuel Adebayor along with Scott Parker and also keeping Luca Modric in the squad, their performance has improved a lot and currently sitting in third place behind the Manchesters.
Defoe himself might not be considered as a consistent first team player in Harry Redknapp’s team, but the England international has managed to provide plenty positive contribution for his club mainly with important goals. Should Spurs managed to maintain their consistency, they can really be strongly considered as one of the main title contenders by the end of season.
