A Blue Day At Stamford Bridge As Sunderland Humiliated Chelsea

by Dewa Nugraha on November 14, 2010

chelsea fcA shocking day occurred for the current Premier League leader, Chelsea, as they were surprisingly beaten by Sunderland at Stamford Bridge by a massive 3-0 scoreline that makes the home crowd left with a bluesy feeling.

The Blues that coming into the game with a chance to further the gap with Manchester United, totally had all their scenario re-written after they were totally outplayed by their visitor resulting on Carlo Ancelotti’s side first home defeat this season.

Playing in-front of their home crowd, the Blues could actually smells trouble right before the kick off as the home team were playing without their two regular center backs, John Terry and Alex. The makeshift defensive partnership of Paolo Fereirra and Branislav Ivanovic turned out to be one of the main source of Chelsea’s weaknesses on the game as the visitor easily puts three goals pass Peter Chech on the game.

Despite playing without several key players, Chelsea actually had a decent start into the game having couple goal scoring chances through Nicolas Anelka and Didier Drogba although overall they were way above their usual standard. Making use of the under par performance from the home team, Sunderland eventually started to put their authority into the game by grabbing a goal late in the first period through Nedum Onuoha’s brilliant individual skill.

After a rather poor first half, things gets even worse for Chelsea early in the second half after Sunderland grabbed the second goal through Asamoah Gyan, who successfully latched into a fine through pass from Jordan Henderson before placing a fine shot pass Cech. Going two goal down seems taking the tools out of the Blues’ players as not only they have a hard time in creating chances, they also started to make lots of errors in defense. The most fatal mistake happened just couple of minutes before the whistle as Ashley Cole misplaced his back pass, allowing Danny Welbeck to steal it and score the third and final goal.

The defeat definitely left a bitter taste on Carlo Ancelotti’s side as the lead that they supposedly stretched turned the other way around as not only United managed to cut one point from them, Arsenal at the same time are only two points behind after successfully defeating Everton. This loss also put Chelsea under an uncomfortable run as they suffered two defeats in their last three games, with plenty injuries coming it looks like Ancelotti has a tough task up front.
